Code editions differ by state — the National Construction Code is adopted separately by each state and territory, so the edition in force where you are building is not always the newest one published. Every Matra Forge specification sheet is issued against the edition in force in your jurisdiction on the day of order, and we flag any product whose classification changes between editions.

We hold trade stock and run indent programs across timber flooring, ceramic and porcelain tile, and natural and sintered stone. Every SKU is admitted to the catalogue only once its test reports, emission class and installation guidance have been checked against the Australian Standards it will be specified under.

Product selection is where most compliance failures start. These are the instruments that govern what Matra Forge will and will not put on a truck. Expand each for the plain-English version.

NCC National Construction Code
  • The NCC is the performance-based code governing building work in Australia. Each state and territory adopts it separately, so the edition that applies to your project depends on where you are building, not on which edition is newest.
  • Provisions that bear directly on our products include water management and waterproofing, condensation mitigation, energy efficiency, and slip resistance for stairways, landings and ramps — all of which touch substrate, membrane and floor build-up decisions.
  • Matra Forge issues each quote against the edition in force in your jurisdiction, and flags any product whose classification changes between editions.
  • If your certifier is working to a different edition than you expected, send us the reference — we will re-issue the specification sheet against it at no charge.
SILICA Engineered stone prohibition
  • It is unlawful across Australia to manufacture, supply, process or install engineered stone benchtops, panels or slabs — defined as artificial products containing 1% or more crystalline silica, combining stone with resins, water or pigments, and hardened.
  • Not caught by the prohibition: concrete and cement products, bricks and pavers, ceramic wall and floor tiles, roof tiles, grout, mortar, render, plasterboard, and sintered stone and porcelain products that do not contain resin — including benchtops, panels and slabs.
  • Removal, repair or modification of legacy engineered stone installed before the prohibition took effect is still permitted, but is classified as high-risk crystalline silica work with water suppression, on-tool extraction and RPE controls.
  • Matra Forge supplies no engineered stone. Benchtop enquiries are routed to resin-free sintered surfaces, porcelain slab or natural stone, with the exclusion basis stated on the quote.
SLIP AS 4586 & AS 4663 slip resistance
  • AS 4586 classifies new pedestrian surface materials — wet pendulum (P0–P5), wet-barefoot ramp (A/B/C) and oil-wet ramp (R9–R13). AS 4663 covers testing of surfaces already installed.
  • The ABCB publishes an advisory note on slip resistance for stairways, landings and ramps; specifiers commonly work to the HB 198 / SA HB 198 guidance for matching classification to application.
  • An R-rating alone is not a compliance answer. Every tile and stone line we quote carries a current wet pendulum result with the test date and slider used, because ratings shift between production batches and finishes.
  • External, ramped, poolside and commercial-entry areas are quoted with an application note, not just a number.
TIMBER Illegal logging & chain of custody
  • Australia's illegal logging laws require importers to complete due diligence on every timber product, through either a certified timber pathway (FSC or PEFC / Responsible Wood) or a non-certified pathway backed by a documented risk assessment.
  • Repeat imports of the same product from the same supplier within a 12-month window may rely on a prior assessment; processors of their own harvested logs are exempt from due diligence.
  • Matra Forge holds species, botanical name, harvest country and certificate numbers for every timber line, and passes the due diligence record through to the buyer on request.
  • Sawn and milled hardwood is bought to AS 2796 grading, and installation guidance follows the ATFA industry standards for solid and engineered timber flooring.
WET Waterproofing & installation standards
  • AS 3740 — waterproofing of domestic wet areas — governs the membrane system beneath the tile. Tile selection has to suit the membrane and the bond coat, not fight it.
  • AS 3958.1 — guide to the installation of ceramic tiles — covers substrate tolerance, movement joints, adhesive selection and bedding.
  • Large-format porcelain and stone slabs need full-contact bedding and the right adhesive class; we supply the adhesive and grout schedule with the tile so the two are specified together.
  • Movement joint layouts are marked on our take-off drawings for any floor over 6 m in a single run or with underfloor heating.
FIRE Bushfire & emission classes
  • AS 3959 — construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas — sets requirements by BAL rating. For decking, cladding and external timber we supply only species and systems that suit the assessed BAL, or steer to non-combustible tile and stone.
  • Wood panel substrates are supplied to E0 or super-E0 formaldehyde emission classes, tested to the AS/NZS 1859 and AS/NZS 4266 series methods.
  • Adhesives, sealers and finishes are specified low-VOC where a Green Star or NABERS-rated project requires it.
  • Where a product carries CodeMark or WaterMark certification, the certificate number and expiry are printed on the quote.

Send drawings, a schedule or a photo. We check the intended application against the code edition in force in your state and flag anything that will not pass — before pricing.

Physical samples plus the document pack: slip test with date, emission class, chain-of-custody certificate, and any CodeMark or WaterMark numbers.

Take-off & scheduling

Quantities with wastage allowance, movement joint layout, adhesive and grout schedule, and a delivery program matched to your trade sequence.

Delivery & handover

Batch-matched consignments, moisture and acclimatisation guidance on site, and a handover file with care, warranty and maintenance instructions for the client.
